Rill Erosion in Unpaved and Rock-Paved Roads after Wildfire in a Mediterranean Forest

چکیده

Forest roads are often subject to intense runoff and erosion, the rates can be increased by other disturbance factors, such as wildfires. Since scarce literature exists on effects of wildfires rill erosion forest roads, this study presents first results a wider research, evaluating in four different types Hellìn (Castilla-La Mancha, Central-Eastern Spain): unpaved made native materials (soil found at site) rock-paved both built unburned areas well fire-affected areas. In general, more compared roads. particular, road burned shows an erodibility that is higher than 200% even about 400% (in areas). A modeling approach based distance linear models distance-based redundancy analysis has identified slope surface upstream hillslope percent bare soil over important input variables predict future experiences. All these may easily measured quick field surveys. Although analytical limited geometric characteristics features, methods developed useful support activity land managers better understand magnitude develop efficient measures for its control mitigation.

Temporal changes in soil aggregates and water erosion after a wildfire in a Mediterranean pine forest

The evolution of soil structure after a forest fire was studied on two zones representatives of a typical Mediterranean Pine forest. These zones were in opposite slope orientation but with similar topographical and pedological characteristics. Changes in soil macro-aggregation and water stable micro-aggregation were monitored seasonally during a year after the fire. The water erosion patterns w...

Gully Erosion after Wildfire

Predicting runoff and erosion from watersheds burned by wildfires requires an understanding of the spatial structure of both hillslope and channel drainage networks. We investigate the small-scale and large-scale structures of drainage networks using field studies and computer analysis of 30-m digital elevation model. Topologic variables were derived from a composite 30-m DEM, which included 14...

Spatial and Temporal Patterns in Erosion from Forest Roads

Erosion from forest roads is an important contribution to the sediment budget of many forested basins, particularly over short time scales. Sediment production from 74 road segments was measured over three years to examine how road slope, segment length, cutslope height, and soil texture affect sediment production and how these relationships change with time. In the first year, differences in s...

Are ditch networks optimised for mitigating rill erosion in cultivated Mediterranean landscapes? A numerical experiment

Rill erosion frequently occurs in Mediterranean cultivated landscapes due to high rainfall intensities, low soil organic matter concentrations and low vegetation coverage. Among other rill erosion mitigation practices, farmers have historically built ditch networks to intercept runoff upstream of cultivated plots. However, the construction and maintenance of these ditches generate indirect cost...

A non-Markovian model of rill erosion

We introduce a new model for rill erosion. We start with a network similar to that in the Discrete Web** and instantiate a dynamics which makes the process highly non-Markovian. The behavior of nodes in the streams is similar to the behavior of Polya urns with time-dependent input. In this paper we use a combination of rigorous arguments and simulation results.
